“It means a trip to the Outer Realm,” I said, spitting the words out.

“The fae prison!” Isidro asked, suddenly very interested in our discussion.

I supposed a prison was an apt description for what Saeran, the fae king, led those on the outside of Faerie to believe. He’d once told me that after a long battle he’d bested the dark fae and banished them to the Outer Realm. How much of that was true, I had no idea. I’d been to the Outer Realm. I understood that nothing had been banished there that either didn’t want to be there already or was at Baba Yaga’s discretion because she was the Outer Realm. She was the most powerful creature the fae had ever produced and she bided her time, waiting to strike like The Winter Serpent some called her.

“Yes, Isi,” Alex finally chimed in. “I’m sure Dahlia would be happy to have you tag along.”

“That is something to consider,” he said, and I honestly believed he was intrigued by the idea.

“How will we get there?” Jerome asked, undeterred.

“This isn’t a place you want to go,” I hissed, unable to keep the rising anger out of my voice. God damn her! Why couldn’t Baba Yaga just stay in her stronghold under the mountain and leave me the hell alone?

“I’m going after Ellie,” Jerome growled.

I turned and met Konstantin’s gaze which was already fixed on me. “I may be of some assistance,” he mumbled, twisting something on his wrist. I nodded, understanding that he was holding a card he’d hoped he wouldn’t have to play. We were now out of options and the resignation in the slump of his shoulders let me know just how much my vampire wanted Milagra and how much he was willing to pay to get her back.
